Porsche's New 700-hp Monster
The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most power road-going Porsche 911 ever. To achieve that title, Porsche tweaked 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from the otherwise standard 3.8-liter flat-six found in the 911 Turbo S. Now, Porsche did add larger turbos and increase boost—but that is a massive amount of power from a six-cylinder engine.
The GT2 RS hits 60 mph in under three seconds and has a top speed of 211-plus-mph. You may want to start practicing your apology now for when you’re pulled over.
Sadly, if you were hoping to row your own, we have some (kinda) bad news. Porsche’s seven-speed PDK is the only transmission available to send all that power to the rear wheels. But that transmission is buttery smooth, so we’re not too heartbroken.
Other goodies the GT2 RS receive include a custom titanium exhaust system, a water spray-cooled intercooler, a carbon hood, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (20s in the front and 21s at the rear) and the suspension from the 911 Cup car.
Porsche claims the car weighs just 3,300 pounds. That is with the standard ceramic brakes. If you want to shave a few more pounds, you can remove the A/C, stereo and infotainment system. Options include titanium wheels and a carbon roof.
The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS hits dealerships early next year with a starting price of $294,250.
